Morning:

You can spend the day lying on the beach, or if you are adventurous, you could try parasailing, paddleboarding, or jet skiing.

The beach’s surrounding areas offer many opportunities to enjoy your day on one of the most popular beaches in Fort Myers.

Afternoon:

If you decide that you do not want to spend the full day at the beach, then head downtown to visit the Edison Ford Winter Estates, where you’ll step back to 1885 and explore the winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford.

Discover their innovations and enjoy a leisurely stroll through the beautiful historic gardens. The gardens are free to explore.

If you want to venture inside, where the real history is, then you can purchase a Self-Guided Tour ticket for $25.00 or a Guided Tour ticket for $30.00.

You will be able to explore historic homes, museums, and laboratories at your own pace.

Evening:

Whether you spent the day at Fort Myers Beach or headed downtown, now it’s time to head back to Fort Myers Beach to catch the amazing sunset.

Day 2: A Day Trip To Sanibel Island

Sanibel Island is located 16 miles from Fort Myers Beach and is definitely worth spending a day exploring.

Due to its east-west orientation, it is a unique island and is known for its shelling and great sandy beaches.

Sanibel Island is accessed via Interstate 75. Exit 131 will take you to Summerlin Road which will take you right to the Sanibel Causeway, leading onto the island.

There is a $6.00 toll per day to enter the island. Ensure you plan your visits accordingly to make the most of your visit to the island.

Morning:

Start your day off by visiting the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge.

The Refuge is home to over 200 species of birds and a plethora of reptiles and mammals that you can see in their natural habitat.

You will have the opportunity to see roseate spoonbills, ospreys, herons and if you are lucky, an alligator.

There are many top things to do at Ding Darling including exploring some of the trails on foot or bike or taking the wildlife drive through the Reserve.

Some of the trails cost either $1.00 or are free to walk in the Reserve. It costs $10.00 per vehicle if you choose to do the wildlife drive.

The park is generally closed for most activities on Friday. It’s best to check the website, depending on when you plan to visit the Reserve.

Afternoon:

Visit the two best beaches on Sanibel Island, Bowman’s Beach and Lighthouse Beach.

Bowman’s Beach, named one of the top 25 beaches in the United States, offers visitors activities like shelling, sunbathing, picnicking, and exploring some of the hiking trails.

You may have the chance to see manatees in the canals when walking from the parking lot to the beach.

The beach is free to visit, though you do have to pay for parking at $5.00/hour.

Lighthouse Beach Park is located at the southern tip of the island and is home to the historic lighthouse, built in 1884.

You can enter the water, but swimming is not recommended at this beach due to the currents.

It is another great location for shelling, kayaking, windsurfing, and fishing from the pier.

If you time it correctly, you can catch the amazing sunset at either beach.

Evening:

Sanibel Island has some of the best seafood restaurants in the area.

One of the best-recommended restaurants to visit is Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille.

They are known for their ‘Island Mojitos’, seafood, and live music. It’s a great place to wind down after your day of exploring the island.

Day 3: Adventure Awaits At Cabbage Key

Morning:

Drive back to Sanibel Island and head towards Captiva Island, located at the north end of the island.

From here you will embark on an amazing day trip to Cabbage Key. This remote island is accessible only by boat, offering a true escape.

Board your boat and cruise through the waters, enjoying a beverage of choice as you take in the ocean air and views.

You will probably be accompanied by some dolphins during your cruise, riding in the wake of the boat.

Arrive at the island and enjoy the untouched nature as you explore the trails on the island.

Head for lunch at the famous Cabbage Key Inn & Restaurant to try their famous cheeseburgers and ‘frozen’ key lime pie.

They are known for the “Dollar Bill Wall”, where years ago, fishermen would write their names on a dollar bill and stick it to the wall, ensuring they had money to buy drinks the next time they visited.

The tradition stuck over the years and now the walls are adorned with thousands of bills.

Late Afternoon to Evening: 

Once you return back to the mainland, head to Cape Coral to explore Cape Harbour.
