1. Head To Clearwater Beach
If you’re in Anna Maria Island and looking to see some different beaches, Clearwater Beach is a great place to go!
Some of the best things to do on Clearwater’s beautiful beaches include swimming, snorkeling, shelling, sunbathing, and enjoying water sports like kayaking, paddle boarding, and parasailing.
For tons of beach activities, convenient access, and a lively scene, head to the beach south of Pier 60.
But if you’re looking for a more tranquil vibe, head north to the quieter, pet-friendly beaches of northern Clearwater.
You also can’t go wrong with a trip to Sand Key Park for a day of unparalleled beauty, shell-collecting, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, and relaxation.
Nearby Caladesi Island State Park and Honeymoon Island State Park (Florida’s most-visited state parks) are perfect day trips for more white sand beaches.
Tip: A fun and easy way to travel to area destinations and beaches is on the Jolley Trolley. See the Jolley Trolley routes.

Located just south of Anna Maria Island, Sarasota is a beautiful city known for its white sandy beaches, cultural attractions, and fine dining.
Visit the Ringling Museum of Art, stroll through the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, or catch a show at the Sarasota Opera.

4. Go Shopping In Bradenton
Head east to Bradenton, where you can enjoy a day of shopping at the popular Ellenton Premium Outlets.
With numerous designer and brand-name stores, you can find great deals on clothing, accessories, and more.
But Bradenton is more than just outlet shopping. If you want to explore a bit more, head over to downtown Bradenton’s Riverwalk, which stretches along the Manatee River.
It’s a great spot to grab coffee and enjoy the waterfront views.
5. Visit The Bishop Museum Of Science And Nature
Located in downtown Bradenton, the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature is a must-visit attraction for history and nature lovers.
It features a planetarium, a natural history museum, and the Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat, where you can observe manatees up close.

6. Take A Trip To Longboat Key
Located just south of Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key offers pristine beaches and upscale resorts.
Spend a day lounging by the water, indulge in water sports activities, or enjoy a round of golf at one of the area’s renowned courses.
Longboat Key also offers some excellent dining options right on the waterfront.
Places like Mar Vista Dockside and Dry Dock Waterfront Grill give you that true Florida experience — fresh seafood, tropical drinks, and sunset views over the bay.
If you’re into nature, make a quick stop at Joan M. Durante Park.
7. Explore Robinson Preserve
Situated in northwest Bradenton, the Robinson Preserve is a picturesque nature preserve with walking trails, kayaking opportunities, and breathtaking views.
It’s an excellent spot for seeing local wildlife, birdwatching, picnicking, and enjoying the tranquility of nature.

8. Embark On A Fishing Adventure
The Gulf of Mexico is known for its excellent fishing opportunities.
Charter a boat and head out for a day of deep-sea fishing, where you can catch grouper, snapper, and other prized species.

9. Head to St Pete Beach/St Petersburg
Another great day trip option from Anna Maria Island is St. Pete Beach and St. Petersburg, just about 45 minutes away over the Sunshine Skyway.
Start your day soaking up the sun at St. Pete Beach, famous for its soft white sand and clear emerald water—it’s even been named one of the best beaches in the country.
In the afternoon, head into downtown St. Petersburg, where you’ll find plenty to explore.
The St. Pete Pier offers restaurants, public art, a splash pad for kids, and beautiful views of the bay.
Art lovers won’t want to miss The Dalí Museum or the colorful street murals that line downtown.

10. Take A Day Trip To Tampa
If you’re up for a slightly longer excursion, Tampa is just over an hour’s drive from Anna Maria Island.
Explore popular attractions like Busch Gardens, the Florida Aquarium, or catch a game at Raymond James Stadium.
There’s plenty to do in Tampa no matter your interests. If you’re visiting with kids, ZooTampa at Lowry Park is always a hit.
For adults, the historic Ybor City district is worth checking out — you can tour the old cigar factories, grab some Cuban food, and soak up the area’s rich history.
And if you’re a fan of craft beer, Tampa has a booming brewery scene with spots like Cigar City Brewing leading the way.
Between the beaches, amusement parks, and city vibe, Tampa makes for a great day trip when you want a little bit of everything.

Where To Stay In Anna Maria Island?
I like staying here and recommend it because it’s a fun place for the whole family and is a relatively small hotel. It also has a nice pool, and is just across the street from the beach!
It’s at the northern end of Bradenton Beach so centrally located on Anna Maria Island.
Tropic Isle is within walking distance of several restaurants, Kokonut Hut, Wicked Cantina, and Sharky’s.
There are plenty of vacation rental options on the island, too.
