Turtle Hospital
If you’re looking to learn more about these popular sea creatures, then the turtle hospital is a must-visit when you’re in Marathon.
With 90-minute guided tours, you’ll get an up-close experience with sea turtles in an educational setting.
Just remember, this is an animal hospital, so some of these turtles aren’t in great condition.
The efforts of this non-profit are worth the visit, though. It’s a great place to support and see some of the turtles that are getting rehabilitation, before being placed back in the wild.
Be sure to grab a souvenir or gift from the gift shop before leaving, and bring home memories of your tour.
Bahia Honda State Park
With lots of activities, awesome beaches, hiking trails, and more, Bahia Honda State Park is my favorite park to visit in the Florida Keys.
Bahia Honda has 3 separate beaches within the state park, Loggerhead, Calusa, and Sandpur Beaches, all offer different activities within the park.
We spent most of our beach time at Loggerhead Beach, which has shallow, crystal-clear waters along the Atlantic.
The waters here are perfect for snorkeling and kayaking, and you’ll be sure to see tropical fish in the water and birds above the water.
You can also go biking and hiking on the trails. My favorite part of Bahia Honda was walking the Old Bahia Honda Bridge and seeing the amazing views of the area.
The state park is perfect for a day trip- there is a lot of parking, as well as food and snacks.
Calusa Beach has pavilions for picnics, and the park has camping if you’re looking to stay overnight!

Dolphin Research Center
Another great non-profit to visit with the family is the Dolphin Research Center in Grassy Key, right next to Marathon.
Here, you get to see dolphins and sea lions and learn about these animals.
You’ll learn a lot about dolphin behaviors during your visit, and you can also see their collection of exotic birds.
If you and the family are interested, you can also swim with dolphins in an interactive experience!
And be sure to take the kids to cool off at the Sprayground during your visit!
Grab some food and snacks at the Anchors Cafe, which is a food truck on the facility grounds.
Seven Mile Bridge
The Seven Mile Bridge is a beautiful bridge that you cross when traveling from Marathon to Key West.
It has the most scenic views on this scenic route, and you’ll see nothing but the ocean when looking over both sides.
Another great place to stop is the Old Seven Mile Bridge (where the Seven Mile Bridge starts).
Here, you can pull off into the parking lot and walk or take your bikes out on the old bridge.
You’ll see the most amazing views on the old bridge, and this is also a popular spot for fishing.

My girlfriend and I had to capture a photo on the old Seven Mile Bridge!
Like the name suggests, this restaurant is an awesome place to visit for sunset views in the Florida Keys!

Curry Hammock State Park
If you’re looking for a nice beach to visit with the family, then visit Bahia Honda State Park, as previously mentioned.
Curry Hammock doesn’t have a great beach area, but it’s an excellent place to visit if you and the family are looking forward to getting on the water.
This state park is great for kayaking, canoeing, or taking the paddleboards out for a day of quiet serenity on the water.
You’ll see lots of wildlife in the water and maybe even a few manatees in this untouched paradise.
Curry Hammock is another popular destination for fishing, and if you’re looking to stay, there’s also camping at the park.
There is a small fee for entry into both Curry Hammock and Bahia Honda State Parks.

Conclusion
As you can see, there are several fun things to do with the family in Marathon, Florida!
Whether you decide to bring the kids to see sea turtles or dolphins, or explore Bahia Honda or Curry Hammock State Parks, your family will have a great time in this area of the Florida Keys!
