Bahia Honda is a beautiful beach in the Florida Keys. What I love most about this park is the beautiful landscapes, and if you’re looking for fun activities, you’ll find plenty here.
According to Forbes, Bahia Honda State Park is also the 9th best beach in the U.S in 2025!
My family and I recently visited the Florida Keys, and Bahia Honda State Park was definitely one of my favorites.
There is some seaweed here, but the waters are crystal clear, and swimmers can go out a ways in the shallow waters.
Let’s dive in and explore some of the best things to do at Bahia Honda State Park.
1. Relax on the Beaches (Calusa, Loggerhead, and Sandspur)
Bahia Honda State Park is famous for its beautiful beaches. Here, you can relax on Calusa, Loggerhead, and Sandspur beaches.
Each beach has its own vibe and things to do. The warm sand and cool ocean breeze make Bahia Honda a great beach day trip.
The blue waters are shallow and perfect for swimming or just enjoying the view.
We spent a great deal of our time at Loggerhead Beach, which is great for sunbathing or picnics, thanks to its wide view. This beach is on the Atlantic Ocean.
Sandspur Beach is also on the Atlantic Ocean, while Calusa Beach is on the Florida Bay.
Calusa Beach is the best for picnics since there are 2 shaded pavilions.
2. Snorkel in the Clear Waters
With its shallow waters and abundance of marine wildlife, Bahia Honda offers some of the best snorkeling in the Florida Keys, even for beginners!
Just a little way out from shore, you can see colorful fish, conchs. and more.
The waters here are incredibly diverse. You may even spot a few sea turtles.
3. Walk the Old Bahia Honda Bridge for Stunning Views
When you’re done in the water, there is still plenty to do at Bahia Honda State Park, and one of these things is walking the old bridge to see amazing views of the area!
Due to the condition of the bridge, you can’t walk out too far, but it’s still worth checking out.
The bridge has a lot of history since it was once part of the Overseas Railroad and also part of the Florida Keys’ Overseas Highway from 1938-1972.
The bridge is a great spot for photos with the incredible landscape in the background.
4. Explore by Kayak or Paddleboard
For those who love great views on the water and a bit of a workout, kayaking and paddleboarding are good activities to do in Bahia Honda State Park.
You can rent gear at the park or bring your own, and take a solo tour or hit the water with friends to discover the wildlife in the water.
You may see dolphins, birds, and manatees in the calm waters.
Kayaking and paddleboarding at Bahia Honda is sure to be a quiet and peaceful retreat.
5. Spot Wildlife and Enjoy Birdwatching
Bahia Honda State Park is a great place to see wildlife and enjoy birdwatching.
It has different environments, like mangroves and beaches, which make it a perfect spot for nature lovers.
Whether you’re riding bike or just walking, the nature trails are a great place for viewing birds.
We saw many birds right on the beach that were looking for food on the shore. Don’t leave your food and snacks out!
Bahia Honda is a kid-friendly beach. Here, my girlfriend’s son is showing off the coconut he found on the beach.

As you can see, Bahia Honda State Park is a top spot for many beach activities.
You can relax on beautiful beaches like Calusa and Loggerhead, or explore the fish and other marine life while snorkeling.
For those who love a good workout, kayaking or paddleboarding is a great choice.
My favorite parts of Bahia Honda State Park are the beach with crystal clear waters and the awesome views from the bridge.
There is a small fee to enter the park, but it’s worth it, and there’s lots of parking.
I recommend getting here early in the day because there seems to be a longer line of cars waiting to enter the park from the highway as the day goes on.
