Punta Cana is on the Dominican Republic’s Coconut Coast, as it’s often referred to.

This region of the Dominican is on the eastern end of the country and is filled with fancy resorts- my friends and I decided to vacation at the Punta Cana Chic Royalton, which is an adults-only resort.

This post reviews the Chic Royalton in Punta Cana and I’ll also give tips on things to do during your stay here!

To be clear, this is not a paid or sponsored post.  These are all my thoughts from my experience here.

Where Is Punta Cana Chic Royalton Located?

The Chic Royalton Resort is up the coast from the Punta Cana International Airport.

The airport is at the southern end of Punta Cana and the resort is at the northern end.

Punta Cana sits on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic and is interesting in the fact that it’s located where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea.  Since our resort was on the northern end, we were right on the Atlantic.

It was about a 40-minute ride to the Chic Royalton from the Punta Cana airport.

The resort is located right on Uvero Alto Beach and is close to other area beaches including Arena Gorda Beach and Bavaro Beach, which are both within a half hour of the resort.  

Food And Drinks

This is an all-inclusive resort so the food and drinks come with the package. There are several nice restaurants and bars here that do not disappoint.

Here are the places to eat at Punta Cana’s Chic Royalton.

Elements (The Buffet)

The resort reminds me of a cruise ship (other than the fact that you’re not moving in a boat) with its incredible dining options.

The place we’d frequent the most was the buffet, just because they were open the most and had a wide variety of foods to choose from.

Elements has options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices.  

For breakfast, they offer French toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, veggies, yogurt, bread, and cereals.   As you can see, they also have plenty of sugary pastries. 

During lunch and dinner, they have pizza, nachos, chicken, fish, beef, breads, and lots of other options. The chef will even cook your food if you’d like. 

Insomnia Cafe

Perk up at Insomnia Cafe with a coffee or cappuccino.  They also have desserts like ice cream and pastries. 

Also, try nearby Munchies for a casual bite at this poolside eatery. 

Pescari Ceviche & Sushi

Right across from Insomnia Cafe is Pescari Ceviche & Sushi.  If you’re a fan of sushi, Pescari hits the spot.

They also have good seafood and steak offerings, as well.  Pair with a glass of wine or a drink and enjoy some cheesecake or a brownie for dessert. 

Taj Indian Kitchen

If you’re looking for unique dishes and spicy food in a memorable setting, Taj is a good choice. 

Relax and dine on authentic dishes, while dancers provide some entertainment. 

Hunter Steakhouse

All of the dining experiences on this vacation were great but Hunter Steakhouse was the best in my experience.

Having one of their tasty, signature steaks and sides with a glass of wine and dessert was one of the highlights of this trip.

Vespa

We did not eat at the Italian restaurant during this trip but they offer dishes such as pizza, pasta, and other Italian foods.

Vespa also has vegetarian options.

Excite Sports Bar & Lounge

The place at Chic Royalton to go for sports games is Excite Sports Bar & Lounge.

They also have pool tables and other games to play here, too.

We never ate any meals here but we did come after hours for the dj.

Entertainment

Each night from 9-11 pm, the main bar (at the main lobby area), has live entertainment, including live music or a dj.

This open-air bar has a dance area just below the stage and it fills up quick during the night; they also have several tables throughout the bar area for seating during the performances.

Overall, the entertainment is a good time.  The only downfall is that the stage doesn’t have a solid roof, so if the resort gets a lot of rain, the stage gets pretty wet.

One of the nights, we got a lot of rain and they had to end the show a little early.

After entertainment at the bar shuts down, the party moves to the disco (Excite Sports Lounge) for a couple of hours. 

This is a fun, club atmosphere with plenty of drinks, a dance floor, and a dj playing. 

Most afternoons, they have poolside entertainment such as music playing or a dj. 

Rooms & Amenities

We booked the Diamond Club (swim out pool) rooms for our stay.

Although a bit pricier, these rooms are worth it since they have a long swim out pool where you can take a dip and even swim over to your friends’ rooms nearby.  Or you can just relax right on your patio and enjoy the views.

These rooms are also near the large public pools and close to all of the action at the resort.

The room itself is nice and comes with a jacuzzi tub, spacious shower, a safe, couch, high top table, wifi, and a flat screen tv with premium channels. 

They even stock your room with candy bars, waters, soda, beer, and you can get a limited amount of bottled alcohol, all at no extra charge. 

The best thing of all- room service that you can order 24 hours!  The menu includes burgers, fries, chicken fingers, brownies, and more. 

The room key was attached to a bracelet that you wore on your wrist, so that was convenient.  No more losing your room key!  

The Staff

From guest services to housekeeping to the waiters at the buffet and restaurants, the Chic Royalton staff is really exceptional and they make Punta Cana a great place to stay. 

All the employees were friendly and courteous, and they went out of their way to make sure you were having a nice vacation.

The bartenders were awesome and always made sure you had a drink in your hand.

Be sure to tip the staff well!

Things To Do

There are so many fun things to do at this resort.  There’s a gift store and a cigar shop right near the main lobby area, otherwise, here are some fun things to do at Punta Cana Chic Royalton!

Hang Out At The Beach

With brown sands and turquoise waters, the beach is a perfect spot to hang out at while you’re here. 

It’s also a very scenic area for walking up the beach and seeing everything else in the area.  There are other resorts nearby, as well as people selling jewelry and other things. 

Another perk of getting a Diamond Club room was that we had our own beach area with a bar.  

Royalton Watersports is on the other side of the beach from the Diamond Club section and offers water adventures such as kayaking, snorkeling, and scuba diving. 

The only downside of the beach is that the water is really rough here.  There were red flags (dangerous currents, surf is high) out pretty much the whole time we were here, so there weren’t many people swimming in the water.  If you’re going to swim here, do so with caution. 

Try Yoga

For those looking to stay in shape while on vacation in Punta Cana, Chic Royalton offers several different activities.

Try their sunrise or sunset yoga and get your zen on while listening to the waves crashing on the water.  Or you can burn off some energy on the punching bags.

Relax At The Spa Or Workout At The Gym

If you’re looking for a more traditional workout, they offer a gym with treadmills, stationary bikes, and weight equipment.

Relax at the Royalton Spa, which offers massages, facials, and other wellness treatments.

Play Some Basketball Or Tennis

A couple more outdoor activities that Chic Royalton offers are basketball and tennis.

Try Your Luck At The Casino

If you’re looking to try your luck at Roulette or Blackjack, Genesis Casino is right next door to the main lobby bar and stage area.

There are also a few slot machines here but this is not a very big casino.

How Much Money Should I Bring?

Assuming you don’t spend too much time at the casino, you shouldn’t have to bring too much money on your trip.

You’re able to safely pay for shopping and excursions with your credit cards while at the resort, I would just be careful once you’re off the resort.

Our group paid $90 each for the excursion that we went on.  I paid for that on my credit card and just brought a couple hundred dollars for tip money, which worked out great.

Flight And Travels

My friends and I flew from Minneapolis to the Dominican Republic on a 5 hour direct flight via Delta (Delta Vacations).

Our trip was booked through Bursch Travel travel agency, so the flight, hotel stay, shuttle to and from the airport, and everything else was included.  It was a convenient way to travel.

The MSP airport was easy to get through but the Punta Cana Airport is a little more disorganized and slow, so be sure to get there early and give yourself plenty of time at the airport before your flight.

Trip Costs

This trip was $2,000 for me, and this covered flights, comfort seating, hotel stay, and travel insurance.  The couples that I went with paid around $3,000 total.  

The trip costs are really going to depend on when you book and what time of year you go, we booked this trip just about a year in advance and went at the beginning of February 2022.

We also booked during a slower travel time and flight costs have started to go back up.

Excursions 

There are many excursions and tours that you can book when at the resort.  These include ziplining, a catamaran tour, shopping, and more. 

Our group did a tour where we took a shuttle ride through the hillsides and villages and into Higuey, where we visited the Basilica.  

The trees near the Basilica are beautiful. 

Higuey is the capital city of the province and is a 45 minute drive from Punta Cana’s Chic Royalton.  It’s a large city and worth seeing when you’re in the area.   

There are definitely some incredible views along the ride.  

We saw how they made cigars, had an authentic lunch at one of the villages, and got to see how they made coffee.  And also had some Dominican drinks!

Overall, this was such a fun trip and as it’s easy to see why this place gets great reviews- there’s so much to do at the Punta Cana Chic Royalton!
