Looking for a weekend escape with sugar-white beaches, emerald-green water, and fresh Gulf seafood? Destin, Florida, might just be the answer.

Known as “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village,” Destin is the kind of place where you can watch dolphins at sunrise, go parasailing by noon, and toast to a perfect sunset by evening.

Whether you’re looking for relaxation, adventure, or something in between, here’s how to spend two unforgettable days in Destin.

A serene sunset view at Henderson Beach State Park with golden sunlight casting long shadows on the white sandy beach. Small groups of people are gathered near the shoreline, and a colorful kite flies high in the clear blue sky dotted with scattered clouds.

Day 1: Beach Time, Seafood, and Sunsets

Morning: Henderson Beach State Park or Crystal Sands Beach

Start your day by soaking up the Destin sun. Henderson Beach State Park is undoubtedly my favorite beach in Destin.

It has over 6,000 feet of natural shoreline with towering sand dunes, picnic areas, and walking trails.

There’s a small entry fee but it’s well worth it as it’s quiet, clean, and feels a world away from the crowds.

If you’re looking for something smaller and more local, Crystal Sands Beach is a beautiful alternative with bright blue waters and soft sand.

Pro Tip: Get there early for a peaceful stroll and stunning photo ops.  Sunset is also my favorite time for beautiful photos on Henderson Beach State Park.

Late Morning: Jet Ski or Pontoon Boat Rental

If you’re looking to get on the water, rent a jet ski or a pontoon boat and explore Crab Island.

While it’s not technically an island, this shallow sandbar near the Destin Bridge is a local hot spot for swimming, floating, and fun in the sun.

You’ll see anchored boats, floating food vendors, and maybe even dolphins.

Taking a boat cruise to Crab Island was my favorite part of Destin.

Prefer to take it easy? Consider booking a dolphin-watching cruise that leaves from HarborWalk Village instead.

Lunch: The Crab Trap or Pompano Joe’s

Right on the beach, The Crab Trap is a staple in Destin. Order the crab cakes or their fried grouper sandwich, and enjoy the Gulf views from your table.

Another solid option is Pompano Joe’s in nearby Miramar Beach, known for Caribbean-inspired seafood and beachy vibes.

A bright afternoon at HarborWalk Village in Destin, Florida, with the sun gleaming over the water and casting reflections across the harbor. Colorful buildings line the boardwalk, including the "Nautical Treasures" shop with a large Coca-Cola sign, and several boats are docked along the marina with a long bridge stretching across the horizon.

Afternoon: HarborWalk Village

After lunch, head to HarborWalk Village for some leisurely exploring.  I love that there’s plenty to do for the adults and also entertainment and activities for the kids!

There’s live music, boutique shopping, candy stores, bars, and activities like ziplining and rock climbing for the kids.

You can also book snorkeling tours, deep-sea fishing trips, or a sunset sail for the next day.

Dinner: Dewey Destin’s or Brotula’s Seafood House

Wrap up your first day with dinner at Dewey Destin’s, a rustic seafood shack right on the water that serves some of the freshest seafood around.

Try their blackened amberjack or fried shrimp basket. Want something more refined?

Check out Brotula’s for dockside dining and an amazing seafood boil.

Sunset: Norriego Point or Miramar Beach

For one of the best (and lesser-known) sunset spots, head over to Norriego Point.

This sandy peninsula offers calm waters and panoramic views of the harbor and the Gulf. Bring a blanket or beach chair and stay for the show.

Both of these beaches are great, but my preference is Miramar Beach Regional Access since there are lots of delicious restaurants nearby to choose from.

A bright blue sign for The Donut Hole Café & Bakery stands above a white marquee advertising “Fresh Key Lime Pies Made Daily.” The building has a metal roof and blue-striped awning, with a small patio area where patrons can be seen through the windows.

Day 2: Boating, Breakfast, and Hidden Gems

Breakfast: The Donut Hole or East Pass Coffee Co.

Start your morning with something sweet.

The Donut Hole is a Destin classic—donuts, key lime pie, and a full Southern breakfast menu if you’re extra hungry. Prefer something lighter and trendier?

Try East Pass Coffee Co. near the harbor for iced lattes, avocado toast, sandwiches, and smoothies.

Mid-Morning: Snorkeling or Parasailing Adventure

Destin is known for its clear water, so today is a great time to explore beneath the surface.

Snorkeling tours often leave from HarborWalk Village and take you to nearby jetties and sandbars, where you’ll spot fish, rays, and maybe even sea turtles.

Not into snorkeling? Go parasailing instead! You’ll fly up to 400 feet above the Gulf and get a bird’s-eye view of Destin’s coastline.

Alternative: Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park

Traveling with kids? Consider visiting the Gulfarium in nearby Fort Walton Beach.

It’s a small but fun aquarium with dolphin shows, sea lions, stingrays, and hands-on exhibits for younger visitors.

Check Rates on this highly rated Parasailing Adventure where you can see Destin from above the water!

Destin Florida Itinerary
Colorful roadside sign for Lucy Buffett’s LuLu’s in Destin, Florida, featuring a cheerful sun and palm tree graphic with the words “FUN • FOOD • MUSIC” and an arrow pointing to an arcade. The sign sits on a landscaped patch near a main road under a clear blue sky.

Lunch: Boshamps or Lulu’s

Boshamps is a top pick for lunch with a view. Try their fried green tomatoes topped with Gulf shrimp or their seafood gumbo.

For a more casual experience, head to Lulu’s by Lucy Buffett (Jimmy’s sister). It’s fun, laid-back, and great for families.

Afternoon: Destin Commons or Beach Time at James Lee Park

Spend your final afternoon either shopping at Destin Commons—an outdoor shopping center with stores like H&M, Bass Pro Shops, and Sephora—or head back to the beach.

James Lee Park is a good choice for a laid-back final beach stop with public pavilions and calm waves.

Optional: Destin History & Fishing Museum

Want to sneak in one last local experience? Stop by the Destin History & Fishing Museum to learn how this tiny fishing village turned into one of Florida’s favorite beach towns.

It’s small, inexpensive, and full of charm.

Dinner: Marina Café or Louisiana Lagniappe

End your trip with a memorable dinner. Marina Café is a romantic waterfront spot with creative dishes like sushi rolls, filet mignon, and fresh seafood.

Another upscale option is Louisiana Lagniappe, known for its Cajun-style Gulf cuisine.

Evening Stroll: Walk the Harbor Boardwalk One More Time

Before heading home, take a last evening walk along the Destin Harbor Boardwalk.

Grab a drink, listen to live music, or pick up a souvenir. The energy here after dark is just as fun as during the day.

A golden sunset casts a warm glow over Miramar Beach, where visitors stroll along the shoreline and gather on the white sand. A wooden boardwalk leads down to the beach from a nearby building, creating a peaceful coastal scene under a clear evening sky.

Where to Stay in Destin

The Henderson Beach Resort & Spa

If you want an upscale experience, The Henderson is a luxurious, beachside resort located right next to Henderson Beach State Park.

With a full-service spa, ocean-view balconies, and private beach access, it’s perfect for couples or travelers looking for a peaceful, high-end stay.

Alternative: Emerald Grande at HarborWalk Village

For a livelier vibe, the Emerald Grande puts you right in the heart of the action at HarborWalk Village.

Great for families and groups, these spacious suites overlook the harbor and provide walkable access to shops, restaurants, boat tours, and nightlife.

Budget-Friendly Option: Beachside Inn

A colorful, boutique-style hotel just across from the beach, Beachside Inn offers affordability and charm.

Plus, they have restaurants on site and are right next to the beach- a win-win.

Sunlit view of HarborWalk Village in Destin, Florida, showing waterfront shops including the teal-roofed “Nautical Treasures” with a red-and-white Coca-Cola sign. Boats are docked along the marina, the Cotton Eye tour boat is visible, and a bridge stretches across the shimmering water in the distance under a bright blue sky.

Final Thoughts

In just two days, you can experience the best of Destin—from sun-soaked beaches and Gulf seafood to boating adventures and Emerald Coast charm.

Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with kids, Destin offers the kind of laid-back fun and natural beauty that turns quick trips into favorite memories.

Pack your flip-flops, bring your appetite, and don’t forget your camera—Destin is calling.
