Determining the pros and cons of Frontier Airlines can be really important if you’re looking to book a flight with them for your next travels.
Since they’re less well-known than other premium airlines such as Delta and United, there’s a lot less information out there to learn before booking your flight.
As a low-cost and no-frills airline, you can expect less from Frontier than others, but it’s still a decent choice for those flying domestically within the United States.
There are a lot of different airlines out there, and sometimes it can be tough to choose which to fly with, so in this post, I’ll go over whether or not flying Frontier Airlines is a good choice.

Is Frontier Airlines Good?
If you’re wondering if Frontier Airlines is good, there are a few things that you should know.
Since their biggest priority is getting customers to and from their destination on a budget, you can expect to pay fairly low prices for a plane ticket.
They also have a few nice packages that allow you to save on change fees, and you’re able to collect Frontier Miles as a frequent flyer.
But on the other hand, you won’t have any of the fun luxuries that come with other airlines, such as seat selection and complimentary snacks. There also tends to be pretty common delays and cancellations when flying Frontier.
This Denver-based airline is basic when it comes to flights, but you’ll surely get a great deal.
Overall, if you’re looking to save a few bucks on your next vacation or work trip, then yes, Frontier Airlines is good, and you should consider booking with them.

Is Frontier Airlines Good? Pros
Let’s start off by going over what Frontier tends to do very well and why many people enjoy choosing them as their preferred airline.
1. Discount Den Membership & Benefits
If you’re a frequent flyer, then Frontier Airline’s Discount Den might be quite intriguing to you.
By purchasing an annual membership (at $59.99 per year), you’ll receive access to a variety of benefits that can save you money during your travels.
A few of these benefits include being offered the lowest rates on flights that Frontier offers, and being able to book for up to 9 people with those low rates.
If you have young children under age 15, you may also want to take advantage of their ‘kids fly free’ benefit.
2. Low Cost Airline
Frontier is a no frills airline, meaning that they offer extremely cheap flights, but there aren’t any extras included in your ticket.
Providing customers with low-cost travel is the main priority of Frontier, and they do it well.
So if you’re a minimal person and don’t mind packing your own snacks and set of headphones, then Frontier will work great for you.
And in exchange for giving up those luxuries, you can snag a flight for sometimes as little as $20.
So if you’re looking to save some money on your travels, flying on this budget airline is a great way to do it.
3. Collect Frontier Miles
Many airlines offer their own loyalty program, and Frontier Airlines is no different, with their Frontier Miles program.
As a member of the program, you can earn 1 point for every $1 spent on flights on Frontier, which can in turn be redeemed for free or discounted flights.
On top of earning points, you can also pool all of your miles together with your family’s to grow your rewards quicker.
And the program is completely free to join.
4. Bundle & Save On Flights
While Frontier is a ‘no frills’ airline, so there aren’t many extras available for you to choose from, you can opt for their ‘bundle and save’ option, which offers more luxuries.
By choosing The Works Bundle, you can have both a carry-on and checked bag, choose your seat, change flights, have priority boarding, get a 100% refund if needed, and more.
The other option, The Perks Bundle, offers all of the above except refunds and flight changes.
Since Frontier doesn’t offer refunds or changes on normal flights, this is a great way to ensure that you’re covered if something were to happen.
5. New Airplanes
Frontier Airlines is one of the greenest airlines in America, meaning that when you fly with them, you’re helping to be planet conscious.
With their newer airplanes, having a fleet that is under 4 years old, they have been able to be more fuel efficient and reduce their carbon footprint.
In fact, according to Frontier, they are over 40% more fuel efficient than other airlines in America.
They also stay green by having lightweight seats which help reduce fuel usage, and by making small changes such as transitioning to using biodegradable cups.
6. Safe Airline
When on a Frontier Airlines flight, you can rest assured that the captains and crew will get you to your destination safely.
Frontier has never had a fatal air accident since the time that they were founded, back in 1994.
The airline has all of the proper and current protocols in place to ensure that the aircrafts are safe for passengers to be onboard.
Frontier is also certified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and is registered with the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA).
Is Frontier Airlines Good? Cons
Since there are many pros and cons of Frontier Airlines and we’ve gone over the pros, let’s take a look at the cons and a few reasons why you may find that booking your flight with them may not be worth it.
7. No In-Flight Entertainment Or WiFi
Because Frontier is a no frills airline, they don’t offer any extras that you may get when flying with other airlines such as Delta.
Inflight Wi-Fi and entertainment are not available for free or for purchase. Frontier doesn’t offer these things in order to keep their flight prices low for customers.
If you’re taking a longer flight and want to stay entertained, it’s best that you pack a set of headphones and download a few shows or movies to keep yourself busy.
8. Only Non-Refundable Tickets
If plans change or you need to reschedule your flight, unfortunately, you shouldn’t expect to get any sort of refund.
The only way to receive a refund with Frontier is if you cancel within 24 hours of booking or purchase their The Works Bundle.
You are still able to cancel your flight if you need to, but you’ll have to pay a separate cancel fee, which can become expensive.
On top of no cancellations, Frontier also charges a fee if you need to make any changes to your itinerary. Again, this can be avoided by purchasing The Works Bundle.
9. No Complimentary Food Or Beverages
Frontier Airlines also does not offer any sort of complimentary food or beverage service from flight attendants.
You’ll either need to pack your own or choose to purchase from their in-flight menu.
The menu does have a pretty wide selection of drinks and snacks, including both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
10. Charge For Carry-On Bags
As for baggage on Frontier Airlines, the only thing included is a small personal item like a purse or a briefcase. If you need any other bags, you’ll have to pay an extra fee for them.
The prices for each of these different bags will depend on a few things including when you purchase them and how many you need. The cheapest way to get a bag is to add it to your cart when purchasing your ticket.
Carry-on bags could cost you around $30 or more, and are the most expensive at the gate. Checked bags usually start around $50 and go up in price from there.
Although it’s tough to get around anywhere with just a personal item, these charges can become just as expensive as if you were flying with a premium airline like Delta.
11. Extras Cost An Additional Fee
As we’ve mentioned above, Frontier is a pretty minimalistic airline and doesn’t have many extras, unless you choose to purchase them.
If you’d prefer to have anything extra, from flight flexibility to a carry-on bag, you can expect to pay extra for it.
If you’d like to choose your seat, this will also cost an extra fee. For taller people, or those who want extra leg room, it’s recommended to get Stretch Seating, which typically has an extra 5-7 inches of legroom. Seat selection also allows you to sit next to anyone else in your party.
You can also purchase flight flexibility, which allows you to make changes to your booking.
And as we discussed above, any sort of bag, aside from a personal item, will cost extra.
12. Customer Complaints
It seems that Frontier tends to receive a lot of complaints about their customer service and the way that they run things at the gate and online.
Whether it be being charged extra for a bag that fits the required dimensions or not receiving any sort of communication from Frontier regarding a flight cancellation or change, there are plenty of complaints.
Being a budget airline may impact their customer service, and has seemingly created many issues with former customers.
While it can sometimes be tough to gauge a company completely based on reviews, we can use them as a way to see how well the company treats its customers.
On Tripadvisor, Frontier Airlines has been given a 2.5-star rating for customer service.
13. Flight Delays, Cancellations, & Mishandled Bags
Frontier has consistently been one airline to issue a lot of flight delays and cancellations to their customers.
This can evidently be seen in the reviews on Tripadvisor, as many people make complaints about having to wait hours after the scheduled time for their flight to take off.
Among other complaints that customers have had is the mishandling of their bags.
Whether that be not receiving their bag when Frontier claimed that they would or items going missing from their baggage, it seems to be an unfortunate occurrence.
14. Lack Of Destinations
Frontier Airlines services pretty limited destinations and sticks mainly within the United States.
The company is Denver-based and has pretty thorough coverage of the western half of the United States.
There are definitely still some airports serviced on the eastern half of the United States, but there is less coverage.
As for international flights, Frontier only services Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. If you’re flying anywhere else internationally, you’ll need to choose a different airline.
Flights also don’t usually take place every day of the year and days that you can fly to certain locations are very limited.
